Scope of work by trade for construction bidding

No scope reaches a sub before someone has read it.

Scope lists the job's trades in CSI division order and shows where each scope stands. Write what is in, list the items bids are leveled against, pick the sheets the trade bids from, and approve it. Bids can only be requested from an approved scope.

What it does

A scope per trade, approved before bids go out.

Trades in CSI order

Every trade on one page, by CSI division, with its status: no scope yet, draft, approved, changed since approval or bids requested.

Start several at once

Tick the trades you are buying out and start a draft scope for each, from starting text and scope items you then edit.

Scope items you level against

Each scope lists the items every bidder prices. Edit them until the scope is right; the same items become the rows of the leveling sheet.

Sheets by reference

Pick the sheets a trade bids from out of the job's current drawings. Each one links to the drawing. Nothing is copied.

A real approval

Approving records who approved the scope and when. Changing an approved scope makes it a draft again until it is approved again.

Revised sheets are caught

When a picked sheet is revised after approval, the scope is marked changed and has to be reviewed before bids are requested.

How it works

Step by step.

From the first step to the final record.

  1. Step 1

    Start the scopes

Pick the trades. Each gets a draft scope with starting text and scope items.

  2. Step 2

    Write and check each one

Edit the text and the items, and pick the sheets the trade bids from.

  3. Step 3

    Approve

Approve each scope once it has been read. There is no approve-all.

  4. Step 4

    Request bids

Send the approved scope to the subcontractors you invite. They get the scope, its items and the sheets to bid from.

Who uses it

Built for the whole project team.

Everyone on the job works in the same record — each sees what their role allows.

Questions

Scope, answered.

Can bids be requested before a scope is approved?

No. Sending is refused until the scope is approved, and again if a picked sheet was revised after the approval.

Who can approve a scope?

Anyone on the general contractor's team for the job who can edit trade bids. People with view-only access cannot.

Can subcontractors see the Scope page?

No. A subcontractor sees the scope of a trade only on the invitation they were sent, with its items and sheets.

How is a scope changed after bids are requested?

With a trade addendum on the trade bid, which every bidder has to acknowledge.
